You should be using a gun safe or locked container for any firearm that's not being carried on your body or immediate possesion. You can find affordable options at places like Tractor Supply Store, firearm dealers and many other online retailers. Remember, it's crucial to bolt down any safe or lightweight container to the floor and/or wall for added security!

RENDER INOPERABLE

We understand not everyone has the financial means for short-term/long-term costs to store the firearms with a trusted storage partner. In that case, consider making your firearms temporarily inoperable by removing the firing pin or another critical part. Please consult with a trusted FFL for further advice. Consider storing the non-serialized parts at a safe remote location (ex. friend's house). We recommend you maintain possesion of the serialized part with you in a secure & locked container.
WARNING #2: A CHILD, SPOUSE OR OTHER AT-RISK PERSON CAN STILL PUT THEMSELVES IN HARMS WAY IF THEY BRANDISH, THREATEN OR POINT AN INOPERABLE FIREARM AT ANYONE OR ANY THING! DO NOT TAKE ANY CHANCES!

If left with no better option, contact any of the the businesses above OR you can find a list of every valid FFL dealer in NJ at the following ATF link. Please note, this option would have to be excercised PRIOR to any legal/court action. Many FFL's offer consignment services which they take possession (you no longer retain any rights to the firearm) and sell them on your behalf. Some may consider buying it directly from you.
